Leviatan, im Alten Testament von Jahwe überwundenes Seeungeheuer in Drachengestalt mit mehreren Köpfen (Psalter 74, 14; 104, 26; Jesaja 27, 1; Hiob 3, 8 und öfter); Personifikation der gottfeindlichen Mächte; wahrscheinlich verwandt mit dem in Ugarit bezeugten Lôtan (?). - Titel des staatsphilosophischen Werkes von T. Hobbes (1651); ferner Titel eines Romans von J. Green; französisch Erstausgabe 1929.
